5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Teeth-Whitening Treatment

5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Teeth-Whitening Treatment

What do coffee, red wine, tea, tobacco, berries, and soy sauce have in common? They’re all major culprits in staining your teeth — making your smile something you want to hide rather than flaunt.

In addition, trauma to a tooth and just getting older can dull your teeth, as can certain medications.

Don’t worry, though — there’s hope if you want to regain your sparkling white smile. You can get it back by getting your teeth professionally whitened. This procedure is incredibly popular, and one that almost 90% of people request, according to the American Association of Orthodontists.

Teeth whitening is just one of the advanced cosmetic dentistry treatments that Dr. Ali Saeghi offers at Modern Age Dentistry. In addition to general and emergency dentistry, Invisaligntreatment, and dental implants, Modern Age provides the most sophisticated, comfortable teeth-whitening experience with the innovative Philips Zoom teeth-whitening treatment platform.

What can I expect from professional teeth whitening?

Dr. Saeghi adopted the Zoom whitening treatment because of its many benefits:

We believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you come to Modern Age for teeth whitening, because it’s more like a spa visit than a dental treatment! Our caring staff makes certain you’re A-OK during your whitening procedure and completely at ease and comfortable.

First, Dr. Saeghi evaluates your mouth, determines a precise match to your teeth for the whitening color, and talks to you about the possibility or likelihood of your experiencing any post-treatment sensitivity — a side effect for many people

We’re prepared if you do have sensitivity, since, as we mentioned, Zoom treatment includes a product specifically designed for post-treatment pain.

Next, Dr. Saeghi uses special tools, like a bite block, cheek retractor, and cotton to prepare you for treatment, so the teeth to be treated are accessible, and the ones that won’t be treated are protected. This also protects your mouth tissue from any exposure.

Dr. Saeghi then applies the special whitening gel to the surfaces of your teeth being treated, but he does this in rounds so there are breaks during treatment.

Once treatment is done, you’re on your way! Though you don’t have any wait time after treatment at our office, please don’t eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after treatment.

Now that my teeth are dazzlingly white, what can I do to keep them that way?

Dr. Saeghi has a series of tips for you to preserve your whitening results, and they really reflect common sense, since some of them are things you would do to take good care of your teeth anyway.

1. Use caution with known culprits of tooth discoloration

We started this post by highlighting food and beverages that stain teeth, but don’t worry — you can enjoy coffee and wine.

Using a straw when you drink prevents the offending liquid from washing over your teeth. Instead, it just goes straight to your throat so you can swallow it, bypassing your now-pearly whites.

2. Give your mouth a swish with water after meals

If you can’t resist that spaghetti with dark tomato sauce or that bowl of blueberries, have your fill, but rinse your mouth out afterward. This will help your teeth retain their brightness.

3. Don’t touch tobacco!

This is a great reason — along with countless others — not to smoke or use tobacco products like chewing tobacco. Tobacco use isn’t only associated with serious health conditions like cancer and heart disease; it’s also a sure-fire way to dim your teeth after they’re whitened.

4. Add a whitening toothpaste to your repertoire

Since you’re brushing your teeth twice daily anyway, why not purchase special whitening toothpaste?

Whitening toothpaste contains whitening agents such as hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to help remove surface stains from your teeth.

5. Don’t skip your regular dental cleanings

Always remember to schedule your routine dental checkups and cleanings. When you visit us for a deep cleaning, we remove plaque and tartar buildup, both of which dull your teeth.

We understand that you want to enjoy your new, dramatically better smile for as long as possible, so make sure to follow this advice to keep your smile wowing onlookers!

Call the Modern Age Dentistry office that’s most convenient to you and schedule a Zoom whitening treatment, or book one with us online. We have offices in Los Angeles, West Hills, and  Ojai, California.
